The Maintainers Summit follows the PyCon US Code of Conduct during the conference days.
We are also participating in an Unofficial Discord as a supplementary communication channel. While on Discord, we also follow the community-run Code of Conduct that governs the unofficial PyCon US Discord and adjacent spaces. The sections below summarize the Code of Conduct. Core principle
Be kind. Assume good intent. Help others feel welcome. Don’t harass anyone. If something feels off, tell a mod.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all members, moderators, admins, guests, and bot operators. It covers public channels, private channels, DMs initiated through community membership, and conduct outside the community when it affects community safety.
Expected behavior
- Be welcoming to people of diverse backgrounds.
- Be respectful in disagreements.
- Consider the impact of your words and actions.
- Use inclusive language.
- Use content warnings where appropriate.
- Respect channel topics and posted norms.
- Honor people’s pronouns and identities.
Prohibited conduct
- Harassment of any kind.
- Discriminatory language.
- Unsolicited sexual content or attention.
- Threats of violence.
- Doxxing.
- Sharing private communications without consent.
- Deliberate misgendering.
- Sustained disruption.
- Spam and scams.
- Advocacy for any of the above.
Moderation team
Moderators and admins are listed in the full document and may rotate over time. Reach the team via the contact addresses below.
Reporting
To report a Code of Conduct concern, email maintainers-pyconus@googlegroups.com, or DM any moderator on the community Discord.
When reporting, please include:
- Your email address
- Date and time of the incident
- Location (channel, room, etc.)
- Description of what happened
- Usernames of those involved
- Screenshots or other supporting evidence
- Whether the situation is ongoing
- Any witnesses
- Concerns about retaliation
Reports are acknowledged within 24 hours. Reporter identities are kept confidential unless the reporter consents otherwise.
Response
The moderation team evaluates each report based on impact and pattern, decides on a response by consensus or majority vote, and follows up with the involved parties within one week.
Consequences
Responses range from no action to permanent removal, and may include:
- Warnings
- Channel or area restrictions
- Timeouts
- Bans
- Role removal
- A public statement, in serious cases
